Steiger International’s Crisis Response Team has been working tirelessly around the clock to support not only our own City Teams in Ukraine, but thousands who have been affected by the horrific conflict in their country.
Today, eight girls from the Steiger Kyiv City Team, one with a small baby, were able to cross the Romanian border, and will be received by our Steiger Poland team. Three of the girls, including the young mother, left their husbands behind, as all men must stay. One of our Steiger families with four children, having fled from their largely gutted city, will also be welcomed by our Wrocław (Poland) team today. The husband/father was miraculously allowed to cross the border due to the size of his young family.
As we continue to witness this tragedy, we feel it is not enough to simply help our own people. Steiger Kyiv's Valerii Ryabokonenko has therefore formed a volunteer task force. With support from Steiger’s recently established Ukraine Relief Fund, he and his team have begun a coordinated effort that is providing food, shelter, beds, fuel, transportation, and other basic necessities for refugees in movement across the region.
As a result of generous financial gifts, two vans are being purchased to facilitate this operation, allowing Steiger Ukraine to be a reference point in helping its people during this very difficult time.
Steiger Poland is also organizing a network of homes, churches, and other facilities in their country that can receive Ukrainian refugees. We are partnering with churches and organizations in Poland and Germany to receive funds and gather supplies in great quantities to be transported across the Ukrainian border.
This week, a team of Steiger missionaries led by our founders Jodi and David Pierce will be arriving at our International Center in Krögis, Germany, to begin preparations to welcome Ukrainians fleeing from the war.
To streamline giving, we have set up a specific fund to support Steiger’s relief efforts. Please consider giving and sharing the need with others.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
