“My heart was broken for my home country, Serbia, and the Balkans region. With only a handful of Chrisitans in my entire city and no one reaching the youth, I started praying and asking God, ‘How can I change this?’”

So at the age of just 16, Dajana started engaging youth while bringing unity to the scattered evangelical Christians in Serbia. In three years time, the team she began grew to 40 members strong, made up of unified Serbian believers from the north and the south! This is really amazing in a country where some studies suggest there are only about 50,000 evangelical believers (0.6% of the population) in the entire country.

When Dajana met Steiger’s European director Luke Greenwood at a conference, he was sharing about Steiger’s vision. It was the same vision God had put on her heart years ago! At Luke’s encouragement, she participated in the Steiger Missions School in 2021.

Emboldened after the SMS, Dajana headed to Bratislava, Slovakia to start a Steiger City Team. She shared with the new people she met about Steiger and they began to gather and pray for the city, spreading the vision to go out to the streets!

The team in Bratislava engaged in their first outreach on Halloween of 2021, with 20 people from 6 different churches participating. Although she was the youngest in the group, Dajana led them on a bold first evangelistic action and that evening, they had more than 100 conversations about Jesus.

Since that night, they have met weekly for prayer, outreaches, and discipleship. The growing team is filled with people who have wanted to share the Gospel on the streets for a long time, but didn’t want to do it alone. There are now seven committed team members, and several plan to take part in the Steiger Missions School in 2022! Team member Tomáš shared, “Since getting involved with the City Team, we don't see anything more important than going out and sharing the Gospel with others.“

One of Steiger’s key objectives is to raise up the next generation of Christian leaders and influencers. We do this by training and mobilizing people like Dajana to make an impact in their cities.

After three months in Bratislava Dajana returned to Serbia, but the team kept organizing outreaches on their own! Dajana shared, “I’m so amazed watching them! Two months ago, they didn’t have any experience with sharing the Gospel and they were scared to go out on the streets. Now, they are organizing themselves, dreaming big, and praying passionate prayers. They are going to town squares and shopping centers to share the Gospel. It’s amazing to watch how God has changed their hearts in a short period of time. I believe that this is just the beginning of the team in Slovakia!”

There is nothing more important than going out and sharing the Gospel!
